An 8-foot alligator was removed from a Jekyll Island beach on Tuesday.
Ben Carswell, director of conservation for Jekyll Island Authority, said the gator may have gotten lost because of high tides and strong currents.
Carswell and a few other people who are trained to handle gators captured it and moved it a short distance away.
Carswell said it isn't unusual for officials to respond to calls about alligators on the beach during this time of year.
