Norcross transit advocate seeks Gwinnett chairman’s job

Jan 11, 2016

A retired businessman has announced his candidacy for chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners.

John "Jack" Snyder, a Norcross-area resident and mass-transit advocate, will seek the chairman's job as a Democrat. In a statement Monday announcing his candidacy, he indicated he'll make transportation and traffic congestion a focus of his campaign.

“Are we as a county meeting the needs of our citizens? Is your commute getting easier?” Snyder said. “I don’t think so. Gwinnett County needs 21st century thinking and leadership, and the time for change is now and I will provide it!”

Snyder owned and operated several Domino’s pizza franchises before retiring. He is a past member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Lion’s Club. He also has volunteered with a local women’s crisis center and serves as president of his homeowner’s association.

Incumbent Chairman Charlotte Nash, a Republican, is expected to seek re-election this year.
