U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson stopped by the state Senate on Tuesday during a visit to the Capitol.
The Georgia Republican, a former state senator, gave brief comments encouraging members' work and congratulating them about being fiscally conservative.
The state over the last several years has cut more than $5 billion from its budget, something Isakson said Congress could learn from. Georgia, he said, has "tightened its belt and done what it had to do."
