School system to hold hearing on “charter district” proposal

The DeKalb County school board will hold a public hearing today regarding a proposal to alter the school district’s form of governance.

The district, Georgia’s third largest, is weighing whether to become the next big system to convert to “charter” status, as Fulton County Schools have done. This would entail pushing more decisions over budgets and other matters to local school councils.

The hearing is at 5:45 p.m. at district headquarters, 1701 Mountain Industrial Blvd.
