Fulton County school leaders are holding community meetings to give parents and others a chance to weigh in on the system's redistricting proposals.
A meeting was held Thursday evening at Esther Jackson Elementary to address redistricting for two new schools in Roswell. One of the schools (“Highway 9 Elementary School”) is already constructed at Highway 9 and Thomas Drive in Roswell and is the temporary location of Esther Jackson.
In August 2016, the Highway 9 school will reopen with a new name (to be determined) to the students in its newly developed attendance zone. The newly rebuilt Esther Jackson Elementary also will open on its original Martin Road site with a new student body.
Another meeting to address this plan will be Dec. 3 at Esther Jackson Elementary (Highway 9 ES Site).
Two upcoming meetings are also slated for the redistricting of two new elementary schools planned for South Fulton. One of the schools (“Derrick Road Elementary School” – official name to be determined) is already under construction on Derrick Road in unincorporated Fulton County and is scheduled to open August 2016.
The second school, scheduled to open in August 2017, will be a replacement for C.H. Gullatt Elementary School.
Parents and others interested can attend meetings on Nov. 12, at Banneker High School and Dec. 10, at Westlake High School.
Each time a redistricting effort is under way, the school system holds a series of meetings to gather input on redistricting proposals. The Fulton County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the new attendance zones in February 2016. Changes in school attendance zones will go into effect the year each new building is scheduled to open.
