Educators: Get an extra $5,000 for working in Atlanta’s worst schools
Atlanta is offering some new principals and teachers bonuses of up to $5,000 and additional perks.
Atlanta Public Schools is already recruiting principals to staff some of its lowest performing schools — those at risk of potential state takeover if voters approve Gov. Nathan Deal's Opportunity School District plan. In addition to a salary of up to $125,000, principals will get a $5,000 bonus and first pick of "high-quality" teachers.
Current and new teachers hired to work in low-performing schools are eligible for $3,000 early signing bonuses.
"These are high-stakes situations and we are certainly looking to make sure that we have principals with the right skill sets matched with the right schools," Deputy Superintendent David Jernigan said.
