Deputy Daniel Rush who was injured during the June 6 shooting at the Forsyth County Courthouse is continuing on the road to recovery.
Rush, a 25-year veteran of the sheriff's department, has undergone two surgeries in the two weeks since he was shot in the leg by gunman Dennis Marx during his attempted full frontal assault on the courthouse, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. Rush has been moved from North Fulton Hospital to a rehab facility to continue recovering.
“I am anxious to get back to work as soon as I am healthy enough to return,” Rush said in a press release thanking all those who helped neutralize the situation at the courthouse, aided him in his recovery and wished him well.
Marx, 48, drove onto the sidewalk and up to the steps of the courthouse, heavily armed with guns, ammunition and explosives on the day he was supposed to appear in court on drug charges.
“He had been planning it for a while,” Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper said at the time.
Police also searched his home, which he had not been living in for days, for additional explosives.
Following a shooting exchange between Marx and several law enforcement officers, Marx was killed at the scene. Other than Marx and Rush, no one was injured.
