GBI medical examiners have identified the burned body of a man who was found in Whitfield County in January, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.
The body was that of Luis Antonio Lopez, 26, of Nashville, Tenn., according to Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood.
"Investigators believe Mr. Lopez may have been murdered in Tennessee and the suspects involved drove him to our area to dispose of the body," Chitwood said.
Lopez was among several people arrested in June after a two-year investigation by Tennessee and federal authorities into a large-scale marijuana operation, Nashville authorities said in a news release. Hundreds of marijuana plants and more than $100,000 were seized.
Lopez’s body was found near I-75 by a 13-year-old boy who was walking in the woods near his home, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. The body was placed in the woods and set on fire.
