“We’re devastated by the loss of Chris Cotton – a hilarious comedian, a beloved member of the Comedy Central family and a joy to be around,” the network said in a Wednesday tweet. “He will be missed.”

Cotton had appeared in movies including “Diwal'oween” and series such as “Carpool Rules.” Comedian Hannibal Buress recalled connecting with Cotton recently about their craft. Buress had signed Cotton up to perform at this weekend’s Isola Fest in Mississippi.

GoFundMe has been set up for his wife, Erica, which was created to help financially support Cotton's family. More than 450 people had donated nearly $40,000 as of Thursday evening. The goal is $50,000.

A memorial show is planned for the comic at Philadelphia's City Winery on Jan. 6.
