A 19-year-old stepdaughter was charged Sunday with the murder of her pregnant stepmother, according to The Telegraph of Macon, citing the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

While the victim previously was identified by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones as 36-year-old Melanie Powell, the sheriff's office says her name is Melanie Power, according to news station WMAZ.

Power, 36, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head about 6:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Radio Drive.
Power's stepdaughter, Passion Latrice Watkins, was found sitting in a park on Pansy Avenue in Macon, the sheriff's office told The Telegraph. She was taken into custody and interviewed about the murder, according to the newspaper.

After the interview, Watkins was charged with malice murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to children and feticide for the death of Power’s unborn child, the sheriff’s office told The Telegraph.

Power was pregnant, Jones reportedly told WMAZ.

Sheriff’s deputies reportedly found Power dead from a gunshot wound to her head, according to The Telegraph.

Her 11-year-old son, who allegedly was attacked by Watkins, according to the newspaper, reportedly found her unresponsive, WMAZ reported.
