A South Miami man took posting on Facebook way too far on Thursday after he allegedly shot his wife dead and then posted gruesome photos of her dead body on his page, according to a report in the Miami Herald.

Derek Medina, 31, stunned his followers by announcing on his page: “I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys. Miss you guys. Take care. Facebook people you’ll see me in the news,” according to the Herald.

The post went viral. It remained public for hours on Thursday before Facebook removed his profile page at the request of police, the Herald reported.

Medina then turned himself in, walking into the South Miami police station and spent Thursday afternoon confessing what he’d done to homicide detectives and laying out what led up to the fatal shooting of his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, 26, the Herald reported. Medina, who had a stormy relationship with Alfonso before and after they were married in 2012, told police that he shot her during an argument after she attacked him with a knife. Police found the dead woman’s body. Her 10-year-old daughter from a previous marriage was upstairs at the time of the alleged fatal shooting. She was not harmed, according to reports.

According to the Herald, Medina had 164 friends on his public Facebook account. His post on his wife’s killing was shared by more than 100 people on the networking site before Facebook shut down the account.
