1. Biggest-ever ship to call on East Coast arrives in Savannah. The Cosco Development, the biggest container ship to ever dock at an East Coast port arrived in Savannah, guided by pilot boats under the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. The mammoth freighter, longer than an Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, arrived during high-tide, the only time a ship that big can enter Savannah's relatively shallow channel. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is in the process of deepening the channel to allow for ever-larger cargo ships. [Read more]

2. I-85 bridge traffic may get worse before it gets better. The work is expected to be finished by 5 a.m. Saturday. GDOT has not said exactly when I-85 will reopen. But it has said the northbound lanes will likely open sometime Saturday, and the southbound lanes should reopen sometime Sunday. [Read more]
