Traditional fast-food chains are facing more competition from “fast-casual” competitors that boast more upscale menus and inviting atmospheres. A new Consumer Reports survey suggests the trend will continue.

Consumer Reports said 32,405 subscribers participated in its 2014 survey to determine the “Best (and worse) fast-food restaurants in America.” The readers devoured 96,208 meals at 65 chains, rating the establishments on food quality and freshness, value, politeness, speed of service and dining area cleanliness.

The restaurants then received an overall score between 1 and 100. No establishment got above an 88, an indication restaurants have to work hard to gain patrons’ accolades.

Food quality has become more important in dining decisions and convenience of location less so, Consumer Reports said. If you're a subscriber, visit myajc.com/business to see how your favorite eateries stack up against the competition in the "best" category.
