Home Depot has pledged to rebuild a Missouri store that was destroyed this week by a tornado.
The Joplin, Mo. store will be rebuilt on its current site. It was decimated Sunday by a tornado that ripped through the city, killing at least 117.
One Home Depot associate was among those killed, spokesman Steve Holmes said, and Home Depot customers were also among the fatalities.
The foundation for the Atlanta-based home improvement retailer will donate $1 million for relief and rebuilding in Joplin. A Home Depot charity, The Homer Fund, is also giving grants to employees there who were affected by the storm.
In a statement, Home Depot CEO and chairman Frank Blake said the company is committed to Joplin for the long haul.
"The devastation in Joplin is indescribable and we will be there to help this community get back on its feet," he said.
