Fort McPherson deal ceremony to be rescheduled

July 8, 2015

A planned ceremony next week to mark the acquisition of Fort McPherson has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

A notice from the McPherson Implementing Local Redevelopment Authority said Wednesday an alternative celebration will be held at a later date.

Last month, the authority completed a complicated purchase of the post from the Army. The transaction involved a simultaneous sale of about 330 acres of the 488-acre site to Tyler Perry Studios for a future film complex.

The Veterans Administration retains land on the site and MILRA will control about 144 acres for a future mixed-use development.
