After a few gloomy and stormy days in metro Atlanta, expect the sun to be back out and temperatures to start dropping again Sunday.
Big temperature drops are moving in after the cold front that brought rain over North Georgia on Saturday. Atlanta residents are waking up to temperatures in the mid-30s and 40s, according to Channel 2 Action News Meteorologist Eboni Deon. After a day of T-shirt and shorts weather, the return to cool, fall temperatures may hit you and bundling up may not be a bad idea.
Temperatures will reach a high of 56 degrees by midafternoon until sunset at 5:30 p.m., when temperatures will start decreasing, hitting the low 40s. Winds are not expected to pick up as they did Saturday and will come in from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph.
Moving into the week ahead, rain continues to be of no worry as temperatures begin to increase into the mid-60s until reaching a high of 72 degrees Friday. Starting Tuesday, expect some clouds. Thursday and Friday will be mostly cloudy but still warm enough to go out without a heavy jacket.
With clear skies ahead, enjoying the outdoors before metro Atlanta gets into winter weather may be your calling to get out of the house. Georgia has many places to check out some holiday lights, including the Garden Lights, Holiday Nights at the Atlanta Botanical Garden and IllumiNights at Zoo Atlanta.
Several roadwork projects will continue around Atlanta, including a new traffic pattern being introduced as part of the Transform 285/400 project. The on-ramp from Abernathy Road to Ga. 400 North will be closed. Instead, a ramp will connect traffic from Abernathy Road to the on-ramp from the North Springs MARTA station. The new pattern will deposit motorists on Ga. 400 a bit farther north than the previous Abernathy Road on-ramp.
As we move into the holidays, stay safe while traveling. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, 76% of fatal crashes are caused by unsafe driving behaviors and 1,507 people died on Georgia roads in 2019. Wear a seat belt and be cautious of other cars and pedestrians as you plan your trips.
