The Tennessee defense will have one less player to worry about when they take on Georgia Tech in the season opener on Sept. 4.

The Yellow Jackets starting running back, Dedrick Mills, has been dismissed from the program for violation of team rules, per Brett McMurphy.

Mills, who rushed for 771 yards and 13 touchdowns as a freshman in 2016, was supposed to be the major threat for Georgia Tech this season in the triple-option offense that Paul Johnson’s teams have run since his days at Georgia Southern and Navy.

The Volunteers, who are looking to replace a few stars on defense including defensive end Derek Barnett, will try to stuff the running game and force the Tech offense to pass the ball, something that it is not adept at. Last season, the Yellow Jackets finished No. 124 (out of 128) in passing offense, throwing for a mere 129.2 yards per game.

The dismissal of Mills follows a season in which he was suspended twice for a total of three games.
