Penalties handed down by the NCAA and the Big Ten:

Postseason bowls: Penn State won't be allowed to play in bowl games for the next four seasons after being in a bowl game 37 times in Joe Paterno's career, an almost annual rite. The Big Ten said its ban would include bowl revenue that the conference shares with members and also ruled that the Nittany Lions can't play in the Big Ten championship game.

Scholarships: The school loses 10 per year for the next four years.

Monetary fines: A $60 million fine levied by the NCAA will be paid over the five years of the probation in equal installments and will go toward child-abuse awareness. The Big Ten said the bowl revenue, usually around $13 million over the four years of the postseason ban, would be used in Big Ten communities for the same type of awareness programs.

Record book: All of Joe Paterno's victories from 1998-2011 will be vacated putting Bobby Bowden in the record book as No. 1 in Division I-A history and Eddie Robinson of Grambling State No. 1 in Division I overall.

Transfers: Players will be allowed to change schools immediately without having to sit out a year providing they are otherwise eligible. Players who choose to stay at Penn State and not play will be guaranteed their scholarships.
