Delta Air Lines is still recovering from Wednesday's severe weather, which forced it to cancel 3,000 flights. While the company is putting in overtime to mend operations, cancellations extended into a fourth day Saturday.
If you are traveling Saturday, the Atlanta-based airline has shared a few tips on its website. Here are five things customers should know about Delta's game plan.
1. Delta has apologized.
Delta chief operating officer Gil West said in a written statement late Thursday afternoon that "we, as always, learn from these experiences. While we can't control the weather, we understand the resulting recovery has not been ideal and we apologize for that."
2. Customers will be refunded.
If your flight is canceled and you do not travel, you are entitled to a refund. If you still plan to travel, you can change your flight without penalty by taking advantage of the waivers that were issued Thursday.
3. The company’s app has the latest updates.
Delta is advising travelers to use the Fly Delta app or delta.com to monitor flight statuses. Both tools can also be used to manage rebooking options.
4.Open seating is finite.
Due to heavy spring break travel, there is limited open seating available, the airline said. While it is working to accommodate all fliers, options may be skimpy for travelers affected by the storms from this week.
5. Employees are making efforts to get everything back to normal.
"Delta people are working hard to stabilize the operation to get it back to a reliable state," the company said on its site.
