Georgia Carry continues its celebration of the state's new gun law starting at 3:30 p.m. Friday as the group kicks off a two-day convention at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel near the Cobb Galleria.

The group and its more than 7,300 members lobbied heavily for the law, which expands where Georgians may legally carry firearms, including into public schools, bars, churches and government buildings under certain conditions.

Festivities through Saturday night include all-day “Zombie” airsoft target shoots, as well as vendors and seminars on the new law, self-defense and the effectiveness of grassroots lobbying. The group will also host conservative political activist Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Washington state-based Second Amendment Foundation.

Georgia's new gun law took effect last month and has been the target of national gun control groups including those supported by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg's involvement prompted Georgia Carry to host a "We beat Bloomberg and now we are celebrating with a big sugary drink!" party in July.
