"Well I think all of us just feel like we want to do something," Marjo Anliker told 11Alive.
Anliker, according to 11Alive, put the word out to her Sun City neighbors to not only help hospital workers, but also to offer comfort to coronavirus patients and the families of those killed by COVID-19.
Neighbor Denise Mitchell made red bows, and she and Anliker sold them to residents, who then decorated their mailboxes.
“Within two days we were covered up in red bows,” Mitchell said.
With the $1,200 initially raised, they bought meals “for the nurses and doctors, and for others at the hospitals who are trying to save lives,” 11Alive reported.
Now, other neighborhoods are ordering the bows. Anliker and Mitchell say they will continue raising funds, but Anliker challenges other areas to come up with ways to honor those who are putting their lives on the line.
