UPDATE:

After a five-hour meeting centered on a mixed-use project that took elected officials to nearly midnight, the City Council delayed talk of charging for parking to the June 24 meeting.

ORIGINAL:

Roswell’s elected officials will consider charging for parking in the city’s downtown Monday night, according to a city agenda.

The Roswell City Council is looking at a proposal that would charge for about 40 spots at Canton Street and Elizabeth Way; the spots would be on two of the three sides of the triangular Heart of Roswell Park.

Parking has been a point of annoyance for residents and citizens visiting the historic downtown.

The proposal would convert 19 spaces on Elizabeth Way and 14 to 18 spaces on Canton Street to paid spots, according to paperwork filed with the city.

There were no rates mentioned in the paperwork.

In April 2018, the city set the parking rates for the 18 paid spaces in the new East Alley.

The meeting for these new paid spots will be at 7 p.m. in city hall, 38 Hill St.
