The management of Allatoona Lake in Cherokee and Bartow counties announced it is moving to cashless operations for hunting permits.

Hunting permits for the 2020-21 season for areas managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will go on sale June 1, unless the Allatoona Lake Project Management Office is still closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the corps said. Only electronic payment, by credit or debit card, will be accepted — no money orders or checks.

“Cashless operations provide a more secure way to conduct financial transactions and reduce the potential for theft or loss of funds,” said Chris Purvis, lead ranger at Allatoona Lake.

The special activity permit fee remains $20 per permit and must be obtained in person, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Project Management Office. No more than 400 permits are issued. They do not apply to the Allatoona Wildlife Management Area, operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
