A shooter is on the run after a man became entangled in a domestic dispute and was killed Sunday morning at a DeKalb County apartment complex, police said.
The victim, who was in his mid-50s, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Investigators believe he was shot as the result of a physical struggle between a couple, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said.
Officers responded to a report of gunshots at the Aspen Woods Apartments on Flat Shoals Road about 5 a.m. After speaking with witnesses, they determined a man assaulted a woman before the victim was shot.
The man is considered the shooting suspect, Vincent said. He left the scene in an SUV and has not been found.
“We are not identifying the victims or suspect at this time as the investigation is ongoing,” Vincent said.
It is not clear how the shooting victim got involved in the couple’s dispute. The woman’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The deadly shooting was the first of two incidents of gunfire DeKalb County police investigated Sunday. In the second, a woman was shot in the chest at a Covington Highway motel, just off I-285.

The woman was rushed to a hospital in critical condition about 9:30 p.m. She is expected to survive, Vincent said.
Both shootings are under investigation.
