The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed Wednesday that the body of a Georgia mom missing since July was found inside of her car in an undisclosed area in Heard County last week.
Natalie Jones, 27, was last seen just before 1 a.m. July 5 in Jackson’s Gap, Alabama, in her hot pink Chevrolet Cavalier. She had gone to the Alabama city to celebrate the Fourth of July with some friends, but she had not been seen since that night.
On Wednesday, the GBI confirmed the medical examiner positively identified the mother of two. The body and the car were found Oct. 6 in Franklin, Georgia, in a wooded area off Roosterville Road, according to news station WMAZ. Nelly Miles, GBI spokesperson, said an autopsy will be performed on the body Thursday.
The remains found appear to have been in the car that was abandoned in that rural area since the Fourth of July weekend, Heard County Sheriff Ross Henry told the Newnan Times Herald.
The agency and the Heard County Sheriff’s Office are investigating Jones' disappearance. The 27-year-old leaves behind two sons, ages 11 and 8, her mother Elaine Gordon told news station Fox 5 last week.
“She did not deserve this because she was a good girl,” Gordon told the news station.
Her phone last pinged in Heard County, which is about an hour southwest of Atlanta. She had texted a friend that she had “made it” that night, but Heard County Sheriff’s Lt. Danny Boswell said the lack of details in the text beg many questions. Her phone last pinged on a cell tower at 5:15 a.m. July 5 in Heard County – “in the opposite end of the county from her home,” he said.
.Jones had been diagnosed as bipolar and schizophrenic and was not on her medications when she vanished, the sheriff’s office told Channel 2 Action News in July.
Gordon said she is seeking justice if someone harmed her daughter, who she said “could light up the world” with her smile.
“God, please get the people so they can serve their justice. My baby can’t walk this earth again.”
Jones’ loved ones started a GoFundMe to help support her funeral costs.
