Rick Ross is making waves on the internet following a pricey purchase from high-end luxury watchmaker Jacob & Co. Posting to social media, Ross revealed that he has bought the “Billionaire Timeless Treasure” watch for a staggering $20 million.
Jacob & Co. — famous for partnering with the likes of legendary footballer Lionel Messi, supercar brand Bugatti and numerous celebrities — reported on its website that the watch features 25 natural Asscher-cut, IF to VVS yellow diamonds, 76 emerald-cut and kite-cut tsavorites and 57 natural baguette-cut yellow diamonds. All in all, the watch features 482 diamonds — weighing in at a total 216.9 ct.
“During a three-and-a-half year treasure hunt across the globe, Jacob & Co. has almost dried up the market for exceptionally large and high-quality yellow diamonds to complete Billionaire Timeless Treasure,” according to the company’s website.
The iconic rapper spoke with Jacob and Co. founder and chairman Jacob Arabo over FaceTime as he donned the watch for the first time, sharing the moment on social media.
“From my perspective, it’s a beautiful thing,” Ross said on social media. “It’s a beautiful moment. This is an amazing timepiece. It took over three-and-a-half years to collect the stones. These are not emerald green stones. These are tsavorites. This cannot be duplicated. It can not be replicated.”
The process of making the watch took significant resources from the jeweler.
“All Billionaires are made unique by the cream-of-the-crop quality of the white diamonds Jacob & Co. has been using since the first Billionaire was released,” according to the company’s website. “In the case of Billionaire Timeless Treasure, the quality requirements are much more stringent as it required only a very rare king of gems: yellow diamonds. Not yellow sapphires, which are much easier to come by. And not just any yellow diamonds.
“Finding 482 diamonds, all of which are natural, all of which are IF to VVS in clarity, either Fancy Yellow and Fancy Intense Yellow in color, all of which are large, all of which are fit for the Asscher-cut, is a task so hard no one ever undertook it. The total rough weight of those stones, prior to any kind of cutting, is estimated to have been around 880 ct.”
