Police said the incident was reported this week outside the elder Chesney's condominium.

Jonathan Jones, president of the neighborhood's homeowners' association, confronted Chesney for allowing his dog to roam without a leash on the grounds of the Woodlake Lodge, Golf & Country Club, police said.

Chesney is accused of responding to the confrontation with a golf club, swinging at Jones at least eight times, hitting him six times, Claiborne County Sheriff's Deputy Wayne Lee told the News Sentinel.

Chesney also faces charges of vandalism under $500, as well as aggravated assault.
