What better way to take your mind off a natural disaster than with bel canto voices, cotton candy hair and decolletage?
Such was the reasoning of the folks at the Atlanta Opera, who have decreed that anyone chased out of their home by Hurricane Matthew shall have a free seat at the company's new production of "The Abduction from the Seraglio," which opened last Saturday.
According to Atlanta Opera, “This is one of Mozart’s best known comedies, in which our heroes, a Spanish nobleman and his friend, must rescue their beloved fiancées from a Turkish palace.”
Opera spokesman Greg Euston said the company posted the offer on Facebook Friday night “and we had seven couples on Saturday.”
The next performances will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11; 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16.
Those stranded by the storm may have lost property or inventory, and Mozart’s confection might be just the thing to cheer them up. “The piece was good for it,” said Euston.”This opera is just escapist fun; the wigs are cotton candy colored.”
Euston added that “all anybody needs to get two free tickets is a valid ID from an impacted city or town.”
