I've been browsing the internet lately for all things related to the 4th of July. You know it's coming upon us quickly, right? As I sat here drooling over this colorful Mexican Salad recipe on My Royal Kitchen (isn't that photo gorgeous?), I decided I wanted to do a few special things for the 4th this year.
Normally I just pack up some sandwiches, and hit the local beach that has a fireworks display every year. I think it would be fun to have a little bit more fun this year when it comes to food and fun, but I also don't want it to cost me a whole lot to celebrate a little more.
Here are some tips from some of the DealPros on how to have a frugal 4th of July this year.
1. Lynette from Cleverly Simple has a few ideas for inexpensive July 4th appetizers here. I'm thinking the colorful fruit and cheese tray is going to be on my list to make. I love that I can do this for a healthier treat, and it's inexpensive as well!
2. The shopping can be the most difficult part about saving money this 4th of July. Melissa from Frugalissa Finds has a list of tips here to help you save on these items at the grocery store. The trick here will be to save money on any meat purchases, as that's usually the most expensive!
3. My kids are still young, so I'm always looking for fun crafts to do with them. Check out this cute flag craft on Thrifty Northwest Mom, that you can make with the kids. It's cute, inexpensive and easy! That makes it a win/win for me!
4. And I think I'll actually decorate my door this year with a patriotic wreath (yeah, I'm one of those people that never decorates!!). Here's a cool DIY patriotic wreath that costs $5 or less to make on Getting Freedom. Less than 5 bucks? Yeah, sign me up!
What are some of your frugal ideas to celebrate the 4th of July this year? Do you have any great appetizer or craft ideas? I'd love to hear about them!
