GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Jimbo Hale, Oglethorpe County
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "West Hall vs. Jackson County, 1990. We (West Hall) were 9-0 going into our last game of the season. Jackson County upset us 20-19 by scoring in the last few minutes of the game. This game was memorable because of three things: 1. The sting of that loss still, to this day, leaves a bad taste in my mouth; 2. I remember how dominating of a player Odell Collins was; and 3. It was the last game I ever played alongside my very best friend, Shea Jarrard, who, not long after, passed away unexpectedly."
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "Phil Jones, former head coach at Winder-Barrow and currently head coach at Shorter University, because he represents what a true coach should be. He teaches our boys how to become true men of character, and he does it by the living example he provides on a daily basis. I'd love for my son to play for Coach Jones."
3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "Pet peeve: Lazy and disrespectful players who feel 'entitled,' especially those that have a ton of potential. Motto: 'Have a great attitude and give your best effort; let the rest take care of itself.'"
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "I really miss the days of the old region playoff. I know they are a thing of the past nowadays, but I'd love to see it come back to where you have to win your two-round region playoff first in order to advance to the state playoffs."
