GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Tim McFarlin, Blessed Trinity
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "It would have to be the 2006 AAAAA state championship game vs. Peachtree Ridge. Without a doubt the most electric atmosphere you could ever hope to play in as a high school coach." [Coach McFarlin gave his answers during the season, before his team played Westminster in the state finals on Friday. Westminster won 38-31 in overtime.]
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "Coach Glen Stephens and Coach Fred Sanderson. Glen was the defensive coordinator and Fred was the offensive coordinator when I played at Milton, and both coached multiple sports, so I got to play for them year-round. I lost my father while in high school, and both of these guys stepped in to make a huge difference in my life, on and off the field."
3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "I have a lot of little pet peeves, so I won't go there. There's not enough time. My favorite saying is 'First things first.' It applies to so many aspects of coaching and playing, and in today's world it's so easy to overlook the really important things."
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "I'd love to see the GHSA consider allowing kickoff returns from the end zone. It's one of the most exciting plays in football." [This answer also was given before the finals. Westminster and Blessed Trinity kicked 11 of 12 kickoffs into the end zone.]
