The Clarkdale Community Center will receive lead paint removal and exterior preservation so that it can be opened again. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a contract recently with Eastern Environmental Inc. for $73,750. This 6,800-square-foot center is inside Clarkdale Park, 5195 Clark St., Austell.

Constructed in 1934, the center is a wood-framed and sided structure, containing a large, open auditorium area with a stage, kitchen and entry vestibule. The building is included in the National Register of Historic Districts as a “contributing structure” to the historic Clarkdale Mill Village, one of the last developed “factory towns” in Georgia.
