The kids of the Malon D. Mimms Boys and Girls Club in Cherokee County got a surprise on July 22 that brought the perfect ending to summer camp.
HomElectrical, a electrical supply store, based in Kennesaw, donated school supplies so the youngsters would be well prepared for the school year that starts this month. The company donated a large selection of book bags, pencils, notebooks, glue sticks, and much more.
“With the success and growth we have been blessed with, we wanted to give back to our community and those in need,” said CEO David Lu.
In addition to the donation, the lighting, electrical and hardware supplies store added a fun and engaging program about electrical safety and renewable energy for the kids. It was the first time the company partnered with the Boys and Girls Club, but it is already a part of the company’s established programs to give back to their community.
This summer, HomElectrical also started a recycling campaign to bring awareness of environmental sustainability to surrounding local companies. It partnered with Cobb County Safety Village and educated young children about the importance of reducing the use of electricity and lighting when at home.
“As part of our green energy initiative, we want to educate our next generation on the importance of being responsible for how they use energy and the effects it has on our Earth,” added Lu.
Hosting this event with the Boys and Girls Club for the first time was a success for Lu and his company.
“Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and seeing how receptive they were was very meaningful to not only myself, but my staff,” said Lu. “It’s our civic responsibility to give back to our community and invest in our children who are the future.”
The community can get involved with the Malon D. Mimms Boys and Girls Club by volunteering for its many programs such as homework assistance, fine arts or intramural sports. People can also donate items on the club’s wish list.
In other news: Caliber Collision's Fourth Annual Rhythm Restoration Food Drive in Atlanta contributed to a record-breaking 2.3 million meals nationwide to help feed at-risk children this summer. Local efforts from Caliber's nine locations in the Atlanta area resulted in $7,993 in cash and 912 pounds of food for a combined total of 65,307 meals to benefit Atlanta Community Food Bank.
Caliber’s annual food drive is a grassroots, employee-driven labor of love in which Caliber teammates nationwide host food and fundraising drives in local communities, challenging each other to beat the previous year’s results. This year’s nationwide food drive more than doubled last year’s total of 1 million meals.
