TALLAHASSEE

The fast-growing American craft beer movement took a while to catch on in Florida, but Proof Brewing Co. is tapping into the craze in a big way. A wide selection of beers ranges from award-winning IPAs that pack a hops wallop to dark stouts brewed with raw cocoa nibs to refreshing American pale ale. Sip the brew of your choice in an inviting beer garden or in the taproom, where a large window offers a view of the production facility.

JACKSONVILLE

Intuition Ale Works, a craft brewery in Jacksonville’s Riverside neighborhood, was the first in Florida to can its beer, which may sound like nothing to brag about, but some craft beer drinkers are rethinking their preference for bottles. That’s because technology has come a long way since the days when canned beer meant beer that tasted like a can. Unlike bottles, cans are airtight and lightproof and can easily go to the beach or the pool. For those who just can’t wean themselves from the bottle, no worries. Bottled beers are also available. The taproom features brews with names like Boneshaker Pilsner, a German-style beer with a white head as foamy as the sea, and Easy on the Eyes, an American IPA that is also surprisingly easy on the palate. Brewery tours are available.

FLAGLER BEACH

Prefer wine to beer? There’s nothing like a chilled glass of wine on a summer day — or, better yet, a frozen glass of wine. That’s right. Flagler Beachfront Winery makes “slushies” for grown-ups. If you can’t decide between flavors, (actually, fruit wines) mix them together. Try the L Bomb: lemonade, watermelon and raspberry.
