Can’t stand the heat? Things to do with grandkids this week

Air conditioning, take us away! Whether you’ve always been a heat-averse family or have grown weary of high temps in the Atlanta area, you have cool indoor options for entertaining grandchildren this week.

Here are kid-friendly options grandparents can enjoy, too:

Marietta Fire Museum

9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, free, Marietta Fire Department, 112 Haynes Street, Marietta.

Fire up your imagination without raising your internal temperature with a self-guided tour of the Marietta Fire Museum. History buffs will enjoy the gear and apparatus dating back to 1854, and the large modern fire trucks will impress all but the most jaded. The museum is just a couple of blocks from Historic Marietta Square, in case you decide to venture into the heat for a stroll.

Bluey’s Big Play: The Stage Show

11 a.m. or 3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, July 13-14, tickets starting at $27.75, 2800 Cobb Galleria Pkwy, Atlanta.

The animated Australian series “Bluey” has launched a live puppet/play version — and your young ones and even their older siblings and parents won’t want to miss it. This is a fair treat, featuring a theme of getting Dad off the couch and a live game of “Keepy Uppy” after the curtains close. Buy tickets here.

Family Fun Day at Painting With a Twist

3-5 p.m. Sunday, July 14, $39 per person, Painting With a Twist, 1867 Jonesboro Road, #2, McDonough.

Here’s a Sunday Funday possibility the whole family can embrace.

At this all-ages sip-and-paint event, you’ll be painting a colorful firefly jar image and eating snacks. They’re strict about underage sipping, but grandparents can bring their beverage of choice to the open studio experience led by an instructor. Book here.
