The Steve Holman Jr. Media Award Fund has been established at Woodward Academy in memory of the 1998 graduate of the school.

The award will be presented annually at the senior banquet to honor a member of the graduating class who has made a significant contribution to student journalism at Woodward Academy in student publications or WATV and is interesting in pursuing journalism in college.

Holman Jr. is the son of Steve Holman, who has been the Hawks’ radio announcer for the past 33 seasons. Holman Jr. passed away in January after a short illness at the age of 38.

While at Woodward Academy, Holman Jr. played football and was part of the WATV Morning Show Crew. He had a strong interest in journalism and media relations which carried on in his professional career in politics.

“Some of Steve Jr.’s closest friends wanted to do something in the way of a fund at Woodward Academy,” Holman said. “And what better way than a media award in his name. He loved being a part of WATV, the school TV station. He also listened to Hawks games on the radio almost nightly and was my biggest fan and critic.”

The honor carries a cash award.
