A Hero to Animals Award is on its way from PETA to 5-year-old Noah Woods, who saved his entire family —including his dog — from a house fire Feb. 9.

Noah woke up to discover the bedroom he shared with his 2-year-old sister was on fire, so he grabbed her and climbed out the window. He went back into the burning house to retrieve his dog and then ran next door to get his uncle. Together, they woke up the rest of the family of nine.

“If it wasn’t for Noah — I mean, we were all asleep, so we wouldn’t have known what was going on,” the boy’s grandfather, David Woods, said. “We could’ve all lost our lives.”

Bartow County fire officials said the electrical fire originated in an outlet in the room Noah and Lily share. No one was hurt except for a small burn on Noah’s wrist.

“In the face of a life-threatening fire, Noah stayed calm and made sure that every member of his family was safe, including his dog,” said Rachelle Owen, PETA’s director of student campaigns and influence. “PETA hopes his kindness and bravery will inspire people of all ages to remember their animal companions during emergencies.”
