When several bull elephants showed up outside an elephant orphanage last month, sanctuary workers recognized one of them as the mate of a former orphan that had been released. Then they saw that he and two of his friends had septic arrow wounds.
Veterinarians tracked and sedated all three injured bulls, removed the arrows and treated the wounds.
Since then, all the elephants have healed and have stuck around the same area, the sanctuary reports.
Sanctuary workers are sure the elephants knew exactly what they were doing when they sought help at the orphanage, which had become known to them as a safe place.
