According to a Kaiser Health News analysis, the 67 percent of Georgia hospitals facing penalties is higher than the national average of 54 percent. The penalties, part of the Affordable Care Act, urge hospitals to pay closer attention to patients after they have been discharged. Read more.

2. Archdiocese: Georgia mission will help family facing deportation

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta said Tuesday that a Catholic Mission in Lilburn where pregnant El Salvadorian woman Claudia Mariela Jurado fled with her two young children Friday after authorities requested she appear in Atlanta to be deported for illegal entrance into the country, will help the woman seeking sanctuary. 3. Judge removes self from Wimbush child abuse case

Therian Wimbush is suing Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Karen Beyers as part of a $500 million slander lawsuit but despite that, Wimbush wanted the judge to stay on her child cruelty case. Judge Beyers recused herself from the case Tuesday and a new judge will be assigned to the case. Read more.

4. Coming soon to Dekalb: Atlanta United training complex

The Dekalb Commission voted 4-3 Tuesday to agree to locate Atlanta United FC's $35 million soccer complex along Interstate 285 by approving incentives that will cost over $12 million in public money. The commission took the vote without permitting any public comment — much like the limitations on citizens' feedback on the Atlanta Braves' relocation to Cobb County. Read more.

5. Leaders call for new push on anniversary of Voting Rights Act

In light of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, political and civil rights leaders came together in Atlanta on Tuesday to call for Congress to restore the laws' lost provisions. U.S. Rep. John Lewis, Rev. Joseph Lowery, Mayor Kasim Reed and others were in attendance. Read more.
