Georgia Tech to lead federal transporation research

Georgia Tech will receive $7 million total in federal grants and matching state and private money to lead a national transportation research center, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Friday.

Tech researchers will focus on highway safety and other transportation issues through being named one of 10 National Tier One university transportation centers.

Tech's center is made up of colleges in Alabama, Florida and Georgia, including University of Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Southern Polytechnic State and Clark Atlanta universities and Spelman College.
