A legend in the music industry has died.

Rolling Stone reported that Leonard Cohen has died at 82 years old.

The news was confirmed on Cohen's official Facebook page Thursday night.

"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away," the post said. "We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries."

"The family requests privacy during their time of grief."

Cohen's career spanned five decades and was compared to Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.
