The day after her baby girl was hospitalized and her husband charged with child abuse, the baby's mother told police she had seen numerous injuries on the child over time, authorities said.

But Jamie Cason Whited said she was afraid that if she took the child to the doctor, the state child protection agency might get involved, according to court papers obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Whited - who said she previously spotted bruises on the face of little Dinah Paige Whited, as well as blackened eyes and a bruise on her forehead - is now in jail, charged with child cruelty.

Her baby girl, who people have been calling Baby Dinah, remains on life support in an Atlanta children’s hospital.
