Don’t be alarmed, River Ridge High School parents.

The heightened police activity at the Cherokee County school will be a test of emergency authorities’ ability to respond to an active shooter situation.

Just days after a teen was arrested with a stash of firearms at Chamblee Charter High School, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office will conduct a countywide school shooting drill.

Authorities also plan to have a training site at First Baptist Church of Woodstock, 11905 Hwy. 92, where parents will be united with their children during the training scenario.

And finally, Northside Hospital-Cherokee, 201 Hospital Road in Canton, will be the site where individuals designated as patients will be taken during the drill, authorities said.

Officials did not specify the drill’s start time.
