Atlanta police this morning were investigating a predawn shooting that left a man dead in the middle of a southwest Atlanta street.

The shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. in the 1800 block of Orlando Street, according to Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired in the area found the victim, who is in his mid-20s, dead from multiple gunshots, Guerrucci said.

“We haven’t identified any eyewitnesses to the incident,” he said, adding that a motive for the shooting hasn’t been established.

“We’re also trying to determine what brought the victim to the area,” Guerrucci said. “We don’t feel that he lives in this area.”

Police have not released the victim’s name, but Etha Hall told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the victim was her grandson, Darrell Hall.

She said her grandson, who she raised “from 10 years old to 16,” was very active in Greater Rising Star Baptist Church on Campbellton Road.

“Went to Sunday School, went to church every Sunday, and was a member of the youth ministry,” she said. “I don’t know of any enemy he had. He was very friendly. He would give you the clothes off his back.”
