Alpharetta will begin a project this month that will eliminate left turns at an intersection off Highway 9.
Beginning on March 26, city crews will begin to install a concrete median at the intersection of Highway 9 and Devore Road, which will prevent drivers from turning left onto Devore Road, and drivers turning left onto Highway 9 from Devore Road. Yellow and white thermoplastic striping will also be installed.
The city says that this is a temporary measure. Eventually, the Georgia Department of Transportation will install a traffic light at the intersection.

Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta’s Director of Public Works, said in a statement that the city is making the move now, ahead of GDOT improvements, because the intersection has experienced an increase of crashes there involving left-turning vehicles.
“Eliminating those left turn movements will significantly improve public safety and prevent dangerous T-bone crashes,” Sewczwicz said.
He added that GDOT’s plans for Highway 9 include creating a four-way, signalized intersection by eventually aligning Roswell Street with Devore Road.
“We recognize that temporarily eliminating left turns at Devore Road will be an inconvenience to many motorists,” Sewczwicz said. “But a little inconvenience is a small price to pay so that we can prevent vehicle crashes and injuries.”
Message boards will be placed near the intersection soon to let drivers know of the upcoming changes.
