At a catering service in Atlanta, several frozen turkeys were thawing improperly in containers of standing water, the air temperature inside a walk-in cooler was too warm and a hand sink was leaking onto the floor.
And when Jameson’s Catering, 657 Antone St., tried to renew its food permit, the check bounced. Management was told to pay with cash or a money order instead.
Jameson’s failed the routine inspection with a 60/U, its second failing health score since September when it posted a 68/U. The catering service had a 72/C on the follow-up inspection later that month.
Points were taken off because the walk-in cooler had an air temperature of 50 degrees, and three food items inside the cooler were also at elevated temperatures, the inspector said.
One of the freezers had items stored improperly and subject to contamination. A bag of ice was stored on a shelf with raw meat, and raw sausage was stored with vegetables.
Food stored outside of its original packaging was not dated for discard.
In addition to the leak, one hand sink had no soap and neither of the two sinks had paper towels.
There was a large amount of trash and debris on the ground outside around the dumpster.
Shelves throughout the facility need to be thoroughly cleaned, the inspector said, and the floor underneath and behind equipment also need cleaning.
Jameson’s Catering will be re-inspected.
