Cajun Tropical in Atlanta’s Peachtree Center failed a recent follow-up inspection after posting a 67/U on the initial one.
The restaurant at 225 Peachtree St., Atlanta, had several food containers that were unsanitary. Food was stored in open cans and some foods were in uncovered containers, according to the Fulton County health inspector.
There were leaks at the drain sinks and faucets. And the inspector took note of a “strong and obnoxious sewage odor” coming from the rear area of a walk-in cooler. Management was told to identify the source of the stench and eliminate it.
Cajun Tropical scored 58/U on the follow-up inspection. Prior to the initial failing score on the routine inspection, the restaurant had a health score of 90/A.
During the follow-up visit, the inspector took off points because food prep employees were chopping and touching cooked chicken with bare hands.
Open bulk food items were stored unprotected. Several food containers were stored without a lid. And multiple food containers in use were dirty, the inspector said.
The inspector noted a hole in the floor that had been stuffed with plastic. The floors needed to be repaired and cleaned, especially underneath and behind the equipment, the inspector said.
The entire facility needed cleaning, too. The inspector observed dirty equipment surfaces such as shelves, the inside of cooling and warming units, and others.
Points were also taken off for dented cans and improper food storage in the coolers.
Cajun Tropical will be re-inspected.
