Police: Boyfriend stole car, dragged woman across CVS parking lot

Sandy Springs police are searching for a man who witnesses say stole his girlfriend’s car and dragged the Cobb County woman across a CVS parking lot as he was trying to get away.

Police say the suspect, John Michael Kelly Cox, is still at large as of Wednesday, but they did recover the stolen vehicle – a 2012 Nissan Altima – after it was involved in a hit-and-run in Dunwoody around 8 p.m. on Monday. Police say Cox fled that scene on foot.

The incident at the CVS on Powers Ferry Road in Sandy Springs occurred on Monday, July 17 around 2:30 p.m. According to a police report, the victim said her boyfriend, Cox, stole the car while she was inside the store.

She told police as he was stealing it, she reached in the driver’s side window in an attempt to stop him, but Cox kept driving, which caused her to be dragged across the parking lot. The victim declined medical attention at the scene.

The victim told police that Cox had stolen money from her home in Marietta recently and said that he was in possession of a “large bag” of heroin.

Police also spoke to witnesses who saw the incident. One person snapped a photo of Cox and the victim arguing.

Anyone with information about the case can submit a tip on the Sandy Springs Police Facebook page.
