1. B. Gov. Nathan Deal signed House Bill 60 into law last week. It takes effect July 1. Here are some provisions:

— Allows guns in church sanctuaries if permitted by an individual place of worship. Also significantly reduces the penalty for licensed concealed-weapon holders caught in off-limits sanctuaries to a $100 fine.

— Legalizes the use of silencers for hunting.

— Bans law enforcement officers from demanding to see the permit of someone carrying a gun.

— Among the more controversial parts that didn’t survive was a provision that would have legalized carrying guns on college campuses.

2. C. The state Department of Education, under its new College and Career Readiness Performance Index, is grading schools on a 1-to-110 scale based on academic performance and student progress. Statewide, DeKalb Early College Academy was the top high school performer with a score a 99.3.

3. D. DeKalb County police were caught off-guard Easter Sunday by an unsanctioned party that ended up with at least 1,000 people milling about the park, a number of them drinking but most just socializing. Attendance at the mostly impromptu party at Wade Walker Park near Stone Mountain ballooned after the word spread on social media using the hashtag “BigAssCookOut.” Ultimately, an argument broke out and a couple of men started shooting. Police and experts say the gathering shows the danger of what can happen when young folks advertise a bash in the digital era: Now, a few tweets later, a small party can mushroom into an out-of-control mass gathering.

4. A. Commissioners in Fulton County have asked police officers to drive them to the airport, to concerts and to scores of other public events in recent years, even though county rules forbid using police officers to transport elected officials unless there have been documented threats against the official.

5. A and B. Taxpayer-subsidized airline service at small airports in Athens and Macon, as well as 11 others throughout the country, may soon come to an end, after years of criticism over millions of dollars in federal payments to support service for a handful of passengers a day.

The federal Essential Air Service Program has subsidized airline service at small airports since the airline industry was deregulated in 1978.
