Rogue went rogue, and she did it well. But the aptly named canine fugitive couldn't escape the long leash of the law forever.

Back in February, the feisty, 15-pound Yorkshire terrier mix was designated for the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office’s Operation Second Chance program, where she would live at the local jail while an inmate handler helped train and prepare her for adoption. During an outing to Lawrenceville’s Rhodes Jordan Park, however, she escaped from her volunteer escort.

For nearly 10 months, she eluded potential captors around the Lawrenceville square and ignored cheeseburgers left as bait. But Rogue’s life on the run came to an end Tuesday.

Deputy Shannon Volkodav said Gwinnett’s most wanted pup was baited and captured in Lawrenceville “by a citizen who knew that we were looking for her.” On Tuesday afternoon, Rogue was at a veterinarian’s office being checked out before rejoining the general jail dog population.

“I can’t tell you how glad we are to have Rogue safely back in custody,” Volkodav said. “A lot of people have worked hard to make that happen and we’re thankful for everyone’s efforts.”
